* FracTracker Alliance, Halt The Harm Network Invite Nominations For 2024 Community Sentinel Awards

The FracTracker Alliance and the Halt The Harm Network are now accepting nominations for the 2024 Community Sentinel Award for Environmental Stewardship that honors environmental activism and advocacy.  Nominations are due October 6.

* PA Oil & Gas Industrial Facilities: Permit Notices, Opportunities To Comment - August 10

The following DEP notices were published in the August 10 PA Bulletin related to oil and gas industry facilities.  Many of the notices offer the opportunity for public comments.

* US Treasury: More Than 160,000 PA Families Saved $267 Million+ On Clean Energy, Energy Efficiency Investments Thru Federal Inflation Reduction Act

On August 7, the U.S. Department of the Treasury  released new data from the IRS and new analysis by the Office of Economic Policy showing that more than 160,000 Pennsylvanian families benefited from more than $267 million in tax credits to lower the costs of clean energy and energy efficiency upgrades to their homes during 2023.

* Partnership For Resilient Schools Receives $15.3 Million US DOE Grant To Support Energy Efficient, Safe Learning Environments In Pittsburgh Public Schools, Wilkinsburg School District

* State Health Dept: Free Potassium Iodide Tablets To Be Distributed To Those Living, Working Near State’s 4 Active Nuclear Power Plants Aug. 22, 23, 24

On August 8, the state Department of Health announced it will offer free potassium iodide, or KI, tablets on August 22 to Pennsylvanians who live or work within 10 miles of the state’s four active nuclear power plants, as part of routine preventive efforts in case of future emergencies.

On August 5, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding invited Pennsylvania farmers to apply for $13 million in Resource Enhancement and Protection Farm Conservation Tax Credits available to support their efforts to improve soil health and water quality now through September 1.

On August 5, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission announced it is now accepting applications for its Stream & Watershed Enhancement Grant Program to support local organizations dedicated to the health and wellness of our local waterways.

On August 5, Volpatt Construction, a general contractor and construction management firm serving the Western PA Tri-State area, announced that since January of 2024 and with the help of local partners, the company has diverted more than 275 tons of waste from landfills.

* Latest Conserved Land Census Reports 187,626 Acres Of Land Conserved In PA From 2014 To 2023-- 51 Acres A Day

WeConservePA released the 2023 Conserved Land Census which shows 187,626 acres of land have been conserved in Pennsylvania between 2014 to 2023-- an average of 51 acres a day.

* Registration Now Open For Stewardship Projects To Be Held During PA Healthy Lands Week Sept. 28 To Oct. 6

Registration is now open for community and organization events to be held during Pennsylvania Healthy Lands Week from September 28 through October 6.

* DCNR To Host Aug. 23 Meeting For Prospective Vendors At Catawissa Motorized Recreation Area In Luzerne, Schuylkill Counties

On August 7, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources State Forester Seth Cassell  announced the agency will hold an August 23 informational meeting for prospective vendors for the Catawissa Motorized Recreation Area being developed in Luzerne and Schuylkill counties..

The months-long collaboration culminated last week as volunteers installed the new playspace which will spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for kids in Lock Haven.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to list the eastern Regal Fritillary butterfly as an endangered species and list the western regal fritillary butterfly as a threatened species under the federal Endangered Species Act.
