Pennsylvania drivers logged 241 million fewer miles in June than they did in June 2007 (a drop of almost 2.5 percent), according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The price of gasoline reached a statewide record high of $4.07 on July 16, AAA reports, and topped $4.15 a gallon during June in Philadelphia. Diesel prices hit a state average record of $4.96 per gallon on May 30. While gasoline prices have eased in recent weeks, the Energy Information Agency expects prices to average above $3.80 per gallon nationally through the end of the year. Pennsylvania is also offering immediate help to commuters looking to make smart transportation decisions. In June, PennDOT created the āDump the Pumpā webpage where residents can explore transit options, carpooling and park and ride locations across the state.
