River Conservation Meetings in Kreutz Creek Watershed, York County

The public is invited to participate in the first formal meeting of the Kreutz Creek Rivers Conservation Plan Steering Committee to be held on October 8 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at the York County ANNEX, 118 Pleasant Acres Road, York.

The Kreutz Creek Rivers Conservation Plan includes all of the tributaries to the Lower Susquehanna River and the Deer Creek and Gunpowder Falls watersheds, of York County, Pennsylvania.

The Steering Committee will hold three public meetings in 2008 and 2009—

· October 8: Data Collection will address project area characterization and existing conditions; issues, concerns, constraints, and opportunities for conservation; and land, water, biological, and cultural resources;

· January 19: Plan Development; will address management options, appendices and maps, and development of Kreutz Creek Watershed Toolkit. Steering Committee;

· July 15: Kreutz Creek, Susquehanna, and Mason-Dixon Watersheds Rivers Conservation Plan.

The Steering Committee will submit its petition to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources on October 14, 2009, for addition of these watersheds to the State Rivers Registry.

Listing on the State’s Rivers Registry increases the grant funding eligibility of local municipal governments, recreation board, nonprofit organizations, and watershed groups in these watersheds.
