Dr. Ruth Patrick Recognized for Contributions

Dr. Ruth Patrick, scientist, educator and trustee of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia was given the Winsor Award this week by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council to recognize her outstanding contributions to environmental science.

Dr. Patrick made significant contributions to the field of Limnology and freshwater assessment in her career and received national and international recognition, including the National Medal of Science from President Clinton and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography.

She served as an advisor on environmental policy to several presidents and in her spare time is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is founder and name-sake of the Patrick Center for Environmental Research, which is part of the Academy of Natural Sciences.
