Friends of the Wissahickon Sponsors Free Rain Barrel Workshop October 16

October 16, theFriends of the Wissahickonand the Philadelphia Water Department are sponsoring aRain Barrel Workshopfor homeowners at the New Covenant Campus in Mt. Airy from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

 

The first 100 residents that have pre-registered for and attend the workshop will receive a FREE rain barrel-- one rain barrel per household.The New Covenant Campus is located at 7500 Germantown Avenue.

 

One of the easiest steps residents can take to reduce the harmful effects of stormwater runoff is to install a rain barrel on their property. A rain barrel collects and stores rainwater from a rooftop. By temporarily holding back rainwater during a storm, you can help reduce the pollution of our creeks and rivers, which provide us with drinking water. The collected rain water can be reused to water lawns, gardens, window boxes, or street trees.

 

The Rain Barrel Workshop will give participants a brief overview of the rainwater cycle, information on the importance of stormwater management at home, and instructions on the installation and use of a rain barrel.

 

This event is part of FOW’s Protect Our Watershed program, which seeks to proactively address stormwater runoff in the lower Wissahickon watershed and to protect the area’s significant remaining open space parcels of land.
