EPA Info-Sharing Forum In Philadelphia To Focus On Issues In Hispanic, Asian Communities

Federal, state, city and non-profit leaders will share information on key environmental issues affecting the Hispanic and Asian communities at an upcoming forum sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region.

 

The “Beyond Translation” forum will be held on October 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at EPA’s mid-Atlantic headquarters office at 1650 Arch St., Philadelphia. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge to attend.

 

The forum will feature sessions on environmental health, economic opportunities, small business assistance and green living. Guest speakers are scheduled to include Norman Bristol Colon, executive director of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs; Harry Kao, executive director of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian American Affairs; and representatives of the City of Philadelphia, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the University of Pennsylvania and the National Nursing Centers Consortium.

 

Beyond Translation is an EPA initiative to create new opportunities to engage the Hispanic and Asian communities in environmental stewardship. The translation of documents for outreach and education is one important aspect. EPA is furthering its efforts to improve the quality and availability of environmental and public health information through its forums and other activities.

 

The Philadelphia forum is designed for community leaders, representatives of non-profit organizations, small businesses, health care providers and others.
