PA CleanWays of Elk County and PA CleanWays will partner with Ridgway Township and local residents to remove and properly dispose of illegally dumped trash along a power line right-of-way on Meadowbrook Road on November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and volunteers are needed.

Items illegally dumped at the site include tires, drums, clothing, construction and demolition materials, paint cans, vehicle parts, assorted scrap metal, recyclables, bicycles, and other household trash. The tires and some of the trash offer prime breeding sites for mosquitoes and ticks, potential carriers of West Nile virus and Lyme disease.

Additionally, the dumpsite threatens the overall quality of a nearby spring and the Elk Creek Watershed. This cleanup is funded by the Utilities Programs, United States Department of Agriculture.

Interested volunteers should meet at 9:00 a.m. at the dumpsite. From Ridgway, volunteers should follow SR 120 East towards St. Marys for approximately 1.3 miles. Then turn left onto Meadowbrook Road and follow the cleanup signs. Lunch will be provided; therefore, registration is encouraged.

Youth volunteers, ages 12-17, must have signed parental consent prior to participating. All volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
