Southwest Air Quality Partnership Members To Meet December 5
Pittsburgh, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will be the keynote speaker at annual breakfast meeting of the Southwest Pennsylvania Air Quality Partnership Inc. at 8:15 a.m. December 5, at the DEP’s Southwest Regional Office on Washington’s Landing, Pittsburgh.

“We are pleased to have the mayor discuss Pittsburgh’s new sustainable efforts including energy efficiency upgrades to city buildings,” said Anne Gerace, partnership chair. “The city’s new sustainable coordinator, Lindsay Baxter, will be highlighting the city’s efforts to improve air quality.”

DEP and SPAQP meteorologist Sean Nolan will discuss the 2008 summer ground-level ozone season and look forward to the winter season ahead.

The meeting will also focus on alternative transportation initiatives. With the price of gasoline hitting all-time highs this year, the partnership renewed its efforts to encourage individual efforts to carpool, ride a bus or alternative transportation to help reduce the amount of air pollution generated in the Pittsburgh region.

SPAQP’s education partnership is actively engaged in teacher workshops on air quality teaching tools. The meeting will feature a presentation about these efforts and suggest ways members can be involved in these and other outreach activities.

Partnership board members will provide a report on this year's accomplishments and discuss 2009 activities.

If attending, RSVP by December 1 to Michelle Rupert at CCI so that arrangements may be made for breakfast and seating. Michelle may be reached at micheller@ccicenter.org or at 412-431-4449, ext 202.
