Springside School Worm Composting Project Gets Boost

Weaver's Way recently gave Springside School a grant last year to purchase vermiculture (worms) and a sign for the composting program in the Lower School grades. The composting program is well underway with 2nd grade collecting the cafeteria scraps, and Pre-K through 4th collecting classroom scraps and tumbling the composter at recess. The home phase of the program will begin in March when the vermiculture will go home with the Pre-K students along with a how-to video on composting, which the students will put together before then. The composter is thanks to another grant from SCA Tissue. Pictured in front of the newly dedicated sign are Madeleine Moustafellos, Emma Caplan, Neal Perkins, and Demi Callas. Springside School is an elementary and secondary school for girls and young women located in Philadelphia. |
