Two projects underway by DEP’s Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation will be featured on Scranton-based WNEP TV's “Power to Save” series airing in mid-December.

The year-long educational campaign is designed to raise awareness of the environment, conservation, saving energy and money. The series offers information on the choices available to help save in many ways, providing ideas and products that help save consumer's money, information on eco-friendly products and services and information on environmental clean-ups and projects happening in Pennsylvania’s northeastern communities.

In late November, DEP’s Rodney Webb, John Magula, Gerard Schmidt, David Janssen and district manager Mike Korb met with WNEP's Don Jacobs to tour several sites in southern Luzerne and northern Schuylkill counties.

They toured Cranberry West, a 184-acre site in Hazle Township, Luzerne County. BAMR is designing a project to excavate and grade 1.3 million cubic yards of on-site material to reclaim more than 1,000 feet of dangerous highwall.

The next site toured was Green Mountain South, a 109-acre project being reclaimed in East Union Township, Schuylkill County. This project is underway and will eliminate approximately 4,000 feet of highwall. Several completed sites in the area were also visited.
