Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe this week offered praise to Game Commissioner H. Daniel Hill III, of Erie, for his service on the Board.  Hill announced his resignation from the Board to focus more attention on his new position as Senior Policy Advisor and Counselor with Congresswoman-elect Kathy Dahlkemper, D-3.

Roe said, "Commissioner Hill served admirably, and we appreciate the hard work and dedication that he brought to the Board. We will certainly miss Commissioner Hill's great perspective and intellect. He was an active Commissioner who made major contributions to the policy decisions of the Board."

"While this decision was, no doubt, a difficult one, we recognize that this is a great opportunity for Commissioner Hill. We wish Commissioner Hill well, and thank him for his service for our state's wildlife, wildlife habitats and rich hunting and trapping heritage."

Members of the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners are nominated by the Governor and confirmed by a majority vote of the Pennsylvania Senate to an eight-year term. Board members receive no salary, but are reimbursed for travel and lodging to attend and represent the agency at meetings.

Commissioner Hill was nominated by Gov. Edward Rendell and confirmed by the Senate to fill out a vacant term on the Board on June 6, 2005. Hill was re-nominated by Gov. Rendell to a full eight-year term on the Board, and was confirmed by the Senate on October 16, 2006. The effective date of Commissioner Hill's new position with Congresswoman-elect Dahlkemper is January 2, 2009.

A native of Erie County, Hill is Of Counsel to the Erie law firm of McCarthy, Martone & Peasley. He has practiced primarily in the areas of business, real estate, and estate planning.

Hill is a graduate of the University of Georgia's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, Athens, Georgia, and the Dickinson College of Law, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He has served on a number of for-profit, nonprofit, and foundation boards, and currently is a board member of the Achievement Center (formerly the Erie Crippled Children's Association), the Pennsylvania Institute for Conservation Education, and the Erie County Cooperative Extension Service.

A lifelong and active outdoorsman, Hill is a member of several conservation organizations, including the Ruffed Grouse Society, Pheasants Forever, and Trout Unlimited.
