Stormwater Monitoring: The Nuts & Bolts For Citizen Groups February 14

The Stroud Water Research Center, Delaware Riverkeeper Network, U.S.G.S. and Widener University School of Law are sponsoring a workshop on Stormwater Monitoring: The Nuts & Bolts For Citizen Groups on February 14 in Valley Forge.

 

This interactive workshop is designed to assist citizen groups interested in monitoring the impacts of stormwater on their local streams by providing information and hands-on activities that demonstrate how they can effectively ensure proper stormwater practices are being maintained in their community.

Workshop topics include:

 

-- Regulatory role and citizen action - what the law requires and the proper channels for enforcement;

 

-- Pre-construction monitoring: Interpreting development plans – What to look for and comment on for better development plans;

 

-- Construction phase monitoring – Visual monitoring techniques and working with local framework for enforcement;

 

-- Post-construction monitoring – Assessing best management practices (BMPs) and effective maintenance for the long-term; and

 

-- Field component: Stream monitoring – First flush monitoring, storm events, and erosion monitoring.

 

The workshop fee is $5. Sponsors of the workshop include the Consortium for Scientific Assistance to Watersheds and the DEP Growing Greener Watershed Restoration Program.
