Pennsylvania’s first Statewide Environmental Justice Conference will be held April 26-28 in Harrisburg. Scholarships are available for Pennsylvania residents and members of grassroots and community organizations in environmental justice areas to promote attendance.

The deadline to apply for scholarships is January 30.

The conference, entitled “Building Healthy and Improved Communities for All,” is co-sponsored by Drexel University and the Department of Environmental Protection. Other sponsors include the state departments of Transportation, Public Welfare, Education, Health, Community and Economic Development, SimmonsCooper, Cooney & Conway and Waste Management.

It will be held at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel, 4650 Lindle Rd., Harrisburg.

Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

Scholarships will help off-set registration expenses for conference participants. Scholarship guidelines, criteria, and applications, as well as conference information, are available at the Environmental Justice Conference webpage.
