Pittsburgh, Philadelphia Clean Cities Soliciting Federal Stimulus Alternative Fuel Proposals
The Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Clean Cities Coalitions are now soliciting alternative fuel infrastructure and upgrade and retrofit projects to be funded with the new federal stimulus funding.
 
Infrastructure projects can include building fueling stations that serve alternative fuels, upgrading terminals to handle biodiesel and ethanol. Fifty percent cost sharing is required with $150-500,000 project grants to be considered. Public infrastructure is preferred.
 
Vehicle retrofits and upgrades to handle alterantive fuels, fuel cells and hybrid vehicles are also eligible for existing vehicles or fleets. Fifty percent cost sharing is required with $150-500,000 project grants to be considered.
 
The third category of funding includes education of key stakeholder groups in order to build markets for alternative fuels and vehicles. Projects of up to $1 million are eligible.
 
Project ideas should be submitted as soon as possible. The Coalitions are looking to submit projects by March 29.
 
Pittsburgh projects should be in Allegheny County. Projects in the Philadelphi area will be considered from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
