Student 4-H, FFA Teams Wanted For 2009 Grassland Competition

The Penn’s Corner Resource Conservation and Development Council is seeking teams for the 2009 Grassland Evaluation Competition,an outreach program for youth and is open to all Pennsylvania chapters of Future Farmers of America and 4-H program.
Registration are due April 3.
The contest aims to educate youth about the value and benefits of grazing, offering scholarships to members of high scoring teams.
Grasslands 2009 is open to FFA and 4-H students who are either currently enrolled at the high school level or have graduated at the end of the school year prior to the national contest in June. Penn’s Corner RC&D will award a $500 college scholarship to all members of the 1st place team, a $250 college scholarship to all members of the 2nd place team, and a $500 college scholarship to the highest scoring individual.
The contest contains 4 developmental sections: Grassland Evaluation, Soils, Plant Identification, and Wildlife. The judging site will be a typical pasture or area used for livestock grazing. The contest is held and scored on the same day, with winners notified that day. Lunch is provided for all students, advisors, and volunteers.
The Competition will be May 5 at the Ag Arena on the campus of Penn State University in State College.
