Conservation Districts Receive Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience Grants
The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. this week announced $35,750 in grants for Meaningful Watershed Education Experience Projects.
 
PACD awarded grants for projects partnering conservation districts and schools in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to provide hands-on watershed experiences for K-12 students. Funding for the grants is provided through the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office’s B-WET Program.
 
2009 Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience Grant awards include:
 
-- Bradford County Conservation District ($3,000 for multiple projects) with Rich Gulyas, Education Coordinator, and Anthony Liguori, Ag Team Leader, as project leads. District is partnering with Towanda and Wyalusing Elementary Schools and Troy High School;
 
-- Cambria County Conservation District ($2,000) with Jacqueline Ritko, Resource Conservation Supervisor, as project lead. District is partnering with Cambria Heights Middle School;
 
-- Cameron Conservation District ($2,000) with Jan Hampton, District Manager, as project lead. District is partnering with Cameron County High School;
 
-- Centre County Conservation District ($2,000) with Ann Donovan, Watershed Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with Bald Eagle High School, Middle School, and Elementary Schools;
 
-- Columbia County Conservation District ($5,000 for multiple projects) with Stephanie Singer, Watershed/Environmental Education Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with Bloomsburg Christian School, Greenwood Friends School, and Berwick Middle School;
 
-- Dauphin County Conservation District ($2,000) with Eric Naguski, Aquatic Entomologist, as project lead. District is partnering with The Londonderry School;
 
-- Huntingdon County Conservation District ($1,000) with Andy Patterson, District Manager, as project lead. District is partnering with Southside Elementary;
 
-- Lebanon County Conservation District ($3,000 for multiple projects) with Leigh Beamesderfer, Forester/Naturalist, as project lead. District is partnering with Palmyra Middle & Elementary Schools and the Union Canal School;
 
-- Luzerne County Conservation District ($2,000) with Shawn Rybka, Watershed Program Coordinator, as project lead. District is partnering with State Street Elementary;
 
-- Northumberland County Conservation District ($2,000) with Jaci Harner, Watershed Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with Milton Area High School.
 
-- Snyder County Conservation District ($5,000 for multiple projects) with Jason Winey, Watershed Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with West Perry, West Snyder, and Middleburg schools;
 
-- Sullivan County Conservation District ($1750) with Corey Richmond, Watershed Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with Sullivan County High School;
 
-- Wyoming County Conservation District ($1,000) with Laura Anderson, Environmental Education Coordinator, as project lead. District is partnering with Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center; and
 
-- York County Conservation District ($4,000 for multiple projects) with Gary Peacock, Watershed Specialist, as project lead. District is partnering with Central York and Spring Grove Area High Schools.
