Fish And Boat Commission Extends Application Deadline For Board Seats
Qualified candidates interested in serving as the at-large boating commissioner and District One representative on the Fish and Boat Commission board now have until April 10 to submit their resume and cover letter after the Governor's Advisory Council for Hunting, Fishing and Conservation.

Boating Commissioner

"We are searching for a person experienced in boating and water safety education who is also a registered boat owner in Pennsylvania," said Andy Talento, a member of the council's fish and boat subcommittee. "Pennsylvania ranks 12th in the nation in terms of registered boats, with more than 2.5 million people enjoying the activity on our waters."

Of the 10 seats on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, two of them are charged with representing boating interests.

The at-large boating seat is presently filled by Commissioner Donald K. Anderson of Meyersdale, Somerset County, whose term expires in June.

District One

Candidates from northwestern Pennsylvania interested in representing District One on the Commission board.

The district is represented by Samuel M. Concilla of North East, Erie County, whose term expires in June. It includes Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Lawrence, Venango, Butler, Warren, Forest and Clarion counties.

"The Governor is reaching out to the anglers and boaters of northwest Pennsylvania to find the most qualified candidates to serve on the Fish and Boat Commission's board," said Linda Steiner, who chairs the advisory council.

According to the Fish and Boat Code, in order to qualify as a commissioner, the applicant must be a resident of the district and be well informed on the subjects of conservation, restoration, fishing, and boating. The term of service is eight years.

Candidates for these positions will first interview with the advisory council's fish and boat subcommittee and will be rated on responses, past volunteer experience with water and boating safety, as well as water conservation and restoration issues.

Gov. Rendell will select the final candidate, who, upon Senate confirmation, will serve an eight-year term.

Commissioners serve without compensation, but do receive travel reimbursement.

Individuals interested in applying should send a resume and detailed cover letter to Robb Miller, Governor's Advisory Council for Hunting, Fishing and Conservation, Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market St., 7th Floor, P.O. Box 8767, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8767.
