The compostingworkshop thoroughly covers the importance of composting, setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways of using finished compost. Participants will receive an Earth Machine Compost Bin with attendance. This bin, approved across the state as an ideal bin for urban and suburban areas, has an eighty-gallon capacity, and has a $160 value!

Conservation Consultants Incorporated (CCI) Center, South Side- Wednesday, April 15th from 6:30-8:15 p.m.

 

-- May 7-- East End Food Co-op, Point Breeze- from 6:30-8:15 p.m.

 

-- May 16-- Brentwood Library, Brentwood- from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.

 

-- May 24--Rachel Carson Homestead, Springdale- from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Register for this class and attend the Rachel Carson Sustainable Feast free of charge! (Pre-registration and payment with PRC is required for this class in order to gain entrance to the Rachel Carson Sustainable Feast free of charge.)

 

Workshop cost: $40 Single/$50 Couple (Includes one compost unit per registration).

 

 

Learn about the benefits of composting with worms. It’s easy, fun, odorless and produces a great soil additive! Class participants will learn how to house, feed, harvest and care for their own worms. Be prepared to roll-up your sleeves and make your own worm composting bin! Each participant or couple will be provided with a bin, instructions, and worms. You will go home with a complete, ready to use vermiculture system!

 

The workshop will be held on March 28 at theHarrison Hills Park Environmental Education Center, Natrona Heights from 10:00am-12:00pm.

 

Cost: $45 Single/$55 Couple (Includes one compost unit per registration). 
 

In an effort to reduce the solid waste stream, the workshops are being co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Resources Council, the City of Pittsburgh Environmental Services Division, and the Allegheny County Health Department.

 

The free bin distribution is made possible through a donation from the Department of Environmental Protection and Giant Eagle.
