Calendars House (March 30): House Resolution 35 (M.O'Brien-D-Philadelphia) urging the Department of Education to create stimulating ways to implement geography education. Senate (March 30): Senate Bill 136 (Erickson-R-Delaware) amending the Regulatory Review Act to require agencies to produce verifiable data to support regulatory proposals, Senate Bill 168 (Brubaker-R-Lancaster) providing for the regulation of contracts for municipal electric power, Senate Bill 84 (Greenleaf-R-Montgomery) extends liability protection to nonprofit corporations in brownfield projects. Committees The following Committees have meetings this week-- House: the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee meets to consider House Bill 136 (Brooks-R-Crawford) providing for the use of bioenergy crops in the reclamation of mined lands and House Bill 1027 (Phillips-R-Northumberland) prohibiting DCNR from charging fees for trailer sites for individuals 80 or more and hold a hearing on Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling, the Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy holds a hearing on Marcellus Shale severance tax issues. Senate: the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee holds a hearing on the Department of Agriculture budget request, the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee will hold a hearing to consider the nomination of John Hanger as Secretary of DEP.
Other: the Joint Legislative Budget and Finance Committee holds a hearing on tax exempt property, Game Commission compliance with its strategic plan and other issues, the Environmental Issues Forum featuring John Burrows, Energex Corporation, on wood fuel pellets sponsored by the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee
Bills Introduced These bills of interest were introduced this week-- House
Fuels For Schools: House Bill 1040 (Rapp-R-Forest) establishing a Fuels for Schools and Beyond Program to convert schools to biomass energy.
Dam Funding: House Bill 1068 (Scavello-D-Monroe) authorizing a $150 million bond issue for the repair of dams.
Recycling Administration Fee: House Bill 1069 (Scavello-D-Monroe) authorizing a county recycling and waste management fee not to exceed $4 per ton.
Energy Bond Guarantee: House Bill 1117 (Petri-R-Bucks) providing authority for a $1 billion bond issue to establish the Energy Independence Bond Guarantee Program for public utilities.
Infrastructure Bond: House Bill 1118 (Petri-R-Bucks) authorizing a $400 million bond for water, road and bridge infrastructure repairs.
Heritage Area Program: House Bill 1126( Seip-D-Berks) establishing the Heritage Area Program in law.
Children and Nature: House Resolution 186 (Quinn-R-Bucks) recognizing April as "Children and Nature Awareness Month."
Lyme Disease: House Resolution 188 (Helm-R-Dauphin) designating May as "Lyme Disease Awareness Month" was adopted by the House.
