Montgomery Community College To Host Sustainability Lectures In April

The Global Climate Change Education and Action Group at Montgomery County Community College will host two sustainability lectures in April.

 

On April 1 from 12:30-1:20 p.m., Crystal Gilchrist, Executive Director of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, will present Water 101: Sustaining and Protecting Our Water Supplies.

 

On April 16 from 7-8 p.m., Business Development Consultant Alex Howerton will present The Technical, Economic, and Political Feasibility of Space-Based Solar Power.

 

Both lectures will be held in Science Center room 214, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, and will also be simulcast to South Hall room 221 at the West Campus, 101 College Drive, Pottstown. The lectures are free and are open to the public. For more information, visit www.mc3.edu/sustainability.

 

As Executive Director of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, Crystal Gilchrist works with

business, community and government leaders and property owners to enhance the sustainability of the natural areas associated with the Perkiomen Creek and to identify and address water-related issues affecting the Perkiomen Creek watershed.

 

She holds a bachelor's degree in geography from Penn State University and a master's degree in transportation engineering from Villanova University. She is also a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners and has been involved in planning issues for more than 20 years.

 

Alex Howerton has been involved in advancing commercial space development for nearly 20 years. He is currently a business development consultant with American Aerospace Advisors, a strategic planning and market development consultancy.

 

Throughout his career, Howerton has held numerous positions in the aerospace and computer industries, and he has published numerous articles in his field. He holds a bachelor*s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Washington.

 

The Global Climate Change Education and Action Group at Montgomery County Community College is part of the President's Climate Commitment Advisory Council, which was established in 2007 to carry out the College's commitment to sharply reduce and eventually eliminate its global warming emissions and to help educate society in an effort to stabilize the earth's climate.

 

It is comprised of professors, students, administrators, alumni and community members who are dedicated to education, outreach and action regarding issues of global warming and climate change.
