The Centre County Solid Waste Authority will hold a household hazardous waste collection event May 1-2 at the authority’s facility on Transfer Road near the Nittany Mall off Route 26.
Items to be collected include insecticides, weed killers, pool chemicals, cleaners, poisons, corrosives, flammables, oil-based paints and many other household hazardous chemicals. Used motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, tires, latex paint, radioactive or medical material, explosives or ammunition will not be accepted. Call the authority office if you have a question about materials to be collected.
The collection will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
A similar event in 2008 removed more than 17 tons of hazardous chemicals from households throughout Centre County. This program is being made possible by the cooperative efforts and financial support of the Centre County Local Emergency Planning Committee, Centre County Solid Waste Authority,
Department of Agriculture, Department of Environmental Protection, Penn State Cooperative Extension and other state and local agencies, municipalities and businesses.
