Slip Slidin Away Lunch-time Program On Slide-Prone Soils In Westmoreland April 24
Landslides arenft just a California phenomenon. They happen here in western Pennsylvania, too, and often in the springtime after heavy and frequent rains.

On April 24, you are invited to bring your brownbag lunch to the Westmoreland Conservation District for an informative lunchtime program on our slippery soils – what they are, why they are so unstable, and what you can do to avoid problems with them.

Rob Knight, soil scientist with the United States Department of Agriculturefs Natural Resources Conservation Service who recently completed an inventory of Westmoreland Countyfs soils, will lead the program.

He will use the conservation districtfs unique soil display – five vertical slices of soil from various parts of the county, displayed at eye-level – to show how to read the clues that reveal a soilfs characteristics.
The program is free, and will last about one-half hour starting at noon. To register, contact Christie at 724-837-5271, ext. 210 or send email to: christie@wcdpa.com.

The Westmoreland Conservation District is located in a restored 1880s-era barn at 218 Donohoe Road, about one mile from Westmoreland Mall.
