Watershed Alliance Derry Park Cleanup April 25 In York County
On April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., join your friends, family and the Watershed Alliance of York in the effort to restore Derry Park’s natural beauty and wonder and the vibrancy of community in York County.

The Derry Park cleanup is part of the “Pick it Up PA Days,” an ambitious statewide effort to remove litter and trash from our roadways, parks, forests, riverbanks, neighborhoods, and open spaces. Business and trade associations, state government agencies, youth environmental groups, civic organizations, and people like you can volunteer to clean up your community during the 2009 Pick It Up PA Days, April 25 to May 9.

Litter is Expensive—the presence of litter and trash decreases property values and deters business investment in a community. Every year, Pennsylvania taxpayers...you, your family and friends...pay more than $20 million dollars to deal with litter and illegal dumps. PennDOT alone spends over $11.5 million annually just on roadside cleanups. Cleaning up litter is nine times more expensive than disposing of trash properly.

Litter is Unsightly—the presence of trash and litter lowers the quality of life for everyone.

Litter is Contagious—the presence of litter and trash invites more dumping and littering, that ultimately turns roadsides, streams, parks, farm fields, and neighborhoods into garbage piles.

Litter is Dangerous—broken glass can cut people, especially little children.

Pick It Up PA — Everyday! Pick up a piece of litter everyday while walking down the street, hiking along a stream or in the woods, fishing, boating, playing in park, or any where else...if we all pick up one piece of litter everyday, Pennsylvania will be clean and beautiful.

The Watershed Alliance of York is a coalition of stakeholders committed to encouraging watershed-based planning, restoration and protection in York County and beyond.
