Blight To Beautiful Project Connects Corporation, City, University, Community April 18
On April 18 volunteers from Duquesne University and Uptown Partners as well as representatives from American Eagle, Pennsylvania Resources Council and the City of Pittsburgh will be on hand to oversee and plant native and biofuel producing plants, such as grasses and sunflowers, on the site to complete the Blight To Beautiful Project.

The Blight to Beautiful Project is a comprehensive beautification project in the Uptown neighborhood in the City of Pittsburgh.

Funded by the American Eagle Outfitters Foundation, with support from the City of Pittsburgh’s Green Up Program, PRC and Duquesne are working to transform a run down vacant lot into a welcoming entrance way into the Uptown Community and an educational site as well.

Located at the intersection of the 5th Avenue at the Birmingham Bridge, this City owned lot is a very well seen location in the heavily trafficked 5th and Forbes corridor.

“It is wonderful to see such diverse groups such as corporations, city government, community members and college students come together to support a common goal to beautify and promote the Uptown community”, said Sarah Alessio, Program Specialist for PRC.

The goal of the project is to create a community gathering place as well as an educational tool for Duquesne students to use to learn about biofuels. The project hopes to increase community involvement and input in other beautification efforts in the neighborhood of Uptown as well as work to build relationships between the community and Duquesne University’s student body.
