The Department of Environmental Protection will provide a free workshop in Lycoming County on April 29 to help owners of small and medium-sized businesses reduce soaring energy costs and increase profits.

 

The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Penn College of Technology, Thompson Professional Development Center, Mountain Laurel Room, One College Avenue, Williamsport. The public is welcome to attend.

 

“The high costs of fuel and electricity are affecting all of us, making energy efficiency a top priority,” DEP Secretary John Hanger said. “We want to make sure Pennsylvania businesses take advantage of every opportunity to conserve energy, save money and remain competitive.”

 

The workshop will offer business owners information on energy supply options, illustrate how to identify energy cost-saving opportunities and explain how to develop an energy action plan. In addition, information about financial and technical resources for energy-efficiency upgrades will be available. Particular emphasis will be given to easily implemented, cost-effective changes for small commercial and industrial facilities.

 

Similar workshops are being held statewide this spring.

 

“These workshops will demonstrate to small business owners how to implement measures that can reduce energy usage at their business, save on energy costs, keep our environment clean and boost their profitability,” Secretary Hanger said.

 

The workshop is sponsored by DEP’s Office of the Small Business Ombudsman in partnership with the Electrotechnology Application Center, the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program and the PAEP Pollution Prevention/Energy Efficiency Roundtable. Funding for the Energy Management Workshop is provided through a U.S. Department of Energy grant.

 

DEP’s Office of the Small Business Ombudsman provides assistance to small businesses needing help with environmental issues and helps owners realize the potential cost savings of pollution prevention and energy conservation strategies.
