The event is sponsored by Eaton Corporation.

Carnegie Science Center established the Carnegie Science Awards program in 1997 to recognize and promote outstanding science and technology achievements in western Pennsylvania. Celebrating its 13th year, the Science Awards have honored the accomplishments of more than 200 individuals and organizations that have improved lives through their commitment, contributions, and leadership.

The theme for this year's Awards ceremony is "Shades of Green," a phrase that reflects the complex relationship among humans, technology, and the environment, and one that conveys Pittsburgh's commitment to contribute as a world leader in environmental sustainability.

"Our region is full of innovators, and the Carnegie Science Awards program shines the spotlight on the extraordinary researchers, entrepreneurs, and educators working in these fields," says Ann Metzger, The Henry Buhl, Jr. Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center. "This year, we're especially pleased to celebrate those in the region who have helped to establish Pittsburgh as a 'green' city. They are stewards of our planet and are a beacon of hope in our effort to develop renewable energy resources, design and build energy-efficient machines, and create technologies that will be used for years to come."

Proceeds from the Carnegie Science Awards help fund Science Center exhibits and educational programs with the goal of cultivating scientific curiosity in young people and broadening their perspective about career opportunities in the fields of science and technology.

"At the Science Center, we believe that hands-on learning is fundamental in inspiring curiosity and developing a scientific mindset," says Ron Baillie, The Henry Buhl, Jr. Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center. "Our exhibits and educational programs encourage discovery, illuminate possibilities, and inspire the next generation of scientists and leaders."

"As a company devoted to science and technology, Eaton is proud to sponsor the Carnegie Science Awards," says Jerry Whitaker, president - Americas Region, Eaton Corporation's Electrical Sector. "The awardees' numerous accomplishments demonstrate their commitment to the advancement of their respective fields, providing benefits locally in our region, as well as globally."
