Parks And Forests Foundation Sponsors Native Plant Sale May 17
The PA Parks and Forests Foundation will sponsor a Native Plants Sale at Meadowood Nursery in Hummelstown/South Hanover Township near Hershey on May 17 from 10:00 a.m until 3:00 p.m..

A portion of all sales proceeds will be donated to PPFF to fund native plantings in Pennsylvania’s state parks and state forests.

PA Parks and Forests Foundation President Marci Mowery notes “native plants are the landscaping plants of choice for people who want to attract birds and wildlife to their backyards and create a healthier environment.”

She reminds everyone that “Native species, unlike imported species, evolved with the local environments, and are often more attractive to wildlife and birds, need less care once established, and help to protect our environment. And with names like ‘wild indigo,’ ‘Barbara’s buttons’ and ‘duck potato’ there is the additional opportunity to start a neighborhood conversation about whose native choice is most unusual.”

Also on hand during the sale will be:

-- Deborah Kirkpatrick, Native Plant Landscaper, to answer your questions about developing Native Plant Gardens;

-- John Quimby, retired state forest entomologist, to answer questions regarding plant and insect identification; and

-- Joy VanDervort-Sneed, Environmental Review Specialist for DCNR Bureau of Forestry’s Ecological Services Section, to speak on native plants.

Also on hand will be exhibitors from iConservePA, PA Parks and Forests Foundation, and more!
