Energy Cooperative of PA, Inc. Provides Businesses In Erie With Lower Energy Costs

Anticipating substantial fee increases in electricity, coupled with the fluctuation of natural gas prices, the Erie Manufacturer & Business Association is now offering its members a low-cost alternative energy solution.

 

The Association has established the Energy Cooperative of Pennsylvania, Inc., which will act as a not-for-profit supplier for its more than 4,500 member companies and organizations operating in the region. By leveraging their significant buying power and eliminating broker commissions and marketing costs, the Energy Cooperative of Pennsylvania is able to buy electricity and natural gas in large quantities at wholesale prices — and pass that savings directly on to participating members anywhere in Pennsylvania.

 

ECPA’s “cooperative model” allows it to serve both large- and small-business energy consumers. Each member will be bundled by service class to ensure similar load shapes. The cost factors of volume, timing and peak demand will be analyzed and applied to each customer location individually.

 

Through the ECPA, members will be able to calculate exactly how much they’ll save on their electricity and natural gas bills each month. Businesses also have an opportunity to purchase renewable electricity made up of wind power (25 percent) and biomass methane (75 percent) as part of their membership in the Cooperative.

 

According to ECPA, energy briefings are now being scheduled in those areas of Pennsylvania where rate caps already have been removed. In areas where rate caps have not yet been removed, organizations are encouraged to attend one of the two briefings scheduled at the MBA Conference Center, 2171 West 38th Street in Erie.
