Brownfields, Flood Control, State Parks Bills On Senate Environmental Committee Agenda

The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee meets on June 16 to consider legislation related to brownfields redevelopment, authorizing non-structural flood control alternatives and bills to help keep State Parks open during the budget crisis. The bills include:

-- Senate Bill 235 (Wozniak-D-Cambria) authorizing the use of non-structural flood control alternatives; and

-- Senate Bill 880 (Wonderling-R-Montgomery) reimbursing developers for certain brownfields redevelopment costs.

In addition, Sen. White said she be introducing and considering two bills at this meeting--Senate Bill 962 and Senate Bill 963-- which would permit DCNR to utilize funds available to the agency through the Key ’93 Fund and the Environmental Stewardship Fund for the operation and maintenance of State Parks. The legislation would provide additional funding options for the Department to avert the closing of any state park.
