Joseph Powers Retires As DEP Executive Deputy Secretary
Joseph Powers, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and number two manager in the agency, will retire on June 19.
 
Joe has served as the Executive Deputy Secretary for DEP since 2003. In that role, he has had overall responsibility for the media and public outreach functions of the department and oversaw the development of agency policies, legislative positions and regulations.
 
Prior to joining the department, he served in several policy development and legislative management positions in the House of Representatives. Joe was the Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to former Lt. Gov. Mark Singel from 1987 to 1993.
 
Between 1973 and 1986, he served in numerous positions with the State Senate, including Executive Director of the Military Affairs and Aeronautics, Labor and Industry, and Consumer Protection committees. He also served as the Minority Executive Director of the Economic Development Committee. Mr. Powers has also taught courses at St. Joseph's University, Pennsylvania State University, and Dickinson College.
 
Joe is a graduate of St. Joseph's University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Political Science.
