Brownfields, Flood Control, State Parks Bills OKd By Senate Environmental Committee

The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee this week reported out legislation related to brownfields redevelopment, authorizing non-structural flood control alternatives and bills to help keep State Parks open during the budget crisis. The bills include: -- Senate Bill 235 (Wozniak-D-Cambria) authorizing the use of non-structural flood control alternatives; -- Senate Bill 880 (Wonderling-R-Montgomery) reimbursing developers for certain brownfields redevelopment costs; -- Senate Bill 962 (MJ White-R-Venango) would authorize DCNR to use monies from the Environmental Stewardship (Growing Greener) Fund for the operation and maintenance of State Parks; and -- Senate Bill 963 (MJ White-R-Venango) would authorize DCNR to use monies from the Keystone Recreation, Parks and Conservation (Key '93) Fund for the operation and maintenance of State Parks. "The money in the Key '93 and Environmental Stewardship funds belongs to the taxpayers," Sen. White said. "Over the past several weeks, citizens have expressed their strong support in ensuring that services at state parks are not reduced. While this legislation does not require any transfer of funding to state parks, it gives the Governor and the Secretary of DCNR added flexibility to ensure that our state park system remains open to visitors."
