The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority and the Department of Environmental Protection will accept public comment on proposed drinking water and wastewater projects slated to be funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, DEP Secretary John Hanger announced this week.
“This is an opportunity for the public and water system professionals to review the proposed projects and comment on how the recovery funds are being spent to improve water quality across Pennsylvania,” said Secretary Hanger. “The emphasis for this round of funding is on ‘green’ infrastructure such as energy efficient turbines and lighting systems and water conservation measures at drinking and wastewater facilities.” The funding will be appropriated through the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund and Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund and will be used for design, engineering and construction of drinking water, wastewater treatment, green infrastructure and pollution abatement projects. A public meeting to receive comments will be held at 1 p.m. on July 29 in the Second Floor Auditorium of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market St., Harrisburg. To be considered by the department and PENNVEST, the written comments must be received by the Division of Technical and Financial Assistance by close of business on August 3. A copy of the intended use plans and the project priority lists is available by contacting DEP at 717-772-4053 or online. To offer comments at the public meeting, or in writing, contact DEP’s Division of Technical and Financial Assistance at 717-772-4053, or by send email to Veronica Kasi at vbkasi@state.pa.us, or by mail to the following address by 4 p.m. on July 20: Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Standards and Facility Regulation Division of Technical and Financial Assistance, P.
