What's So Special About Hopewell Big Woods Environmental Ed Workshop October 7
K-12 classroom and home school teachers, environmental educators, and scout troop leaders will all benefit from the “What’s so Special about the Hopewell Big Woods?” Educators’ Workshop, to be held at the French Creek State Park Office, 843 Park Road, Elverson, Pa on October 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Are you looking for field trip opportunities for your students? Have you been searching for new ways to tie the Environment and Ecology academic standards to your curriculum? Do you want to learn more about the local environment and the people working to protect it?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then the “What’s so Special about the Hopewell Big Woods?” Educators’ Workshop is for you!

Based on Environment and Ecology Academic Standards, this workshop will focus on the plant and animal species in the Hopewell Big Woods; the interactive relationships between these organisms, habitats, and people; and will introduce educators to the available resources and field trip possibilities within the area.

Participants will spend the part of the time inside, but most of the workshop will take place outdoors, visiting a seasonal pool, a stream community, and a forested habitat.

The $15 price of the workshop includes meals and classroom resources. Local conservation organizations (like the National Park Service and watershed groups) will be on-hand to distribute handouts and advice to attendees during a networking lunch.

Participants who complete the workshop will have the option to receive 6 hours of ACT 48 Professional Education Hours (available from Berks and Chester County I.U. for an additional cost, payable to the I.U.).

This workshop is an effort of the Hopewell Big Woods Partnership, a collaborative effort of over 40 public and private partners working to preserve the last large, unbroken tract of forest left in southeastern PA. Workshop coordinators include the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Green Valleys Association, Hay Creek Watershed Association, and Natural Lands Trust. Funding was provided by DCNR and Wegman’s.

Registration brochures
are available oniline. These forms can be printed out and mailed to Dawn White, Green Valleys Association, 1368 Prizer Road, Pottstown, PA 19465 with a check for $15 payable to Green Valleys Association, or you can pay online by credit card on the Hay Creek Watershed Association website.
