Biomass, Reclaimed Mined Land Field Day October 6 In Schuylkill County
On October 6 the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, in partnership with the Pennsylvania State University Department of Crop & Soil Science, will hold a field day tour of a project demonstrating the beneficial use of poultry manure and biomass energy crops to help reclaim and abandoned strip mine near Pine Grove, Schuylkill County.

The Field Day will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Hampton Inn in Pine Grove.

The program will feature presentations by Rick Stehouwer, Penn State Extension, on the use of agricultural manure for mine reclamation, nutrient and carbon sequestration, Marvin Hall, also of Extension, on the establishment and management of warm season grasses on reclaimed mine land and a overview of using nutrient trading credits to offset the costs of manure transport by Peter Hughes, Red Barn Trading, and Scott Van de Mark, PA Environmental Council.

The presentations will be followed by a visit to the test site.
