Workshops On Enhancing Waste Services, Improving Quality Of Life Set

The Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania, with support from and in cooperation with the U.S.D.A., is offering free workshops providing rural municipalities with a better understanding of their solid waste management responsibilities and how they might address them.
The workshops will be held: -- August 27: Blair County (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg; -- September 14: Jefferson County (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Heritage House Senior Center, 4 Sylvania St., Brookville; -- September 15: Westmoreland County (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Westmoreland Conservation, District Barn, 218 Donohoe Road, Greensburg; -- September 18: Columbia County (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Columbia County Ag & Human Services Center, 702 Sawmill Rd., Bloomsburg; -- September 22: Crawford County (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), Crawford County Extension Office, 13400 Dunham Road, Meadville. The “Enhancing Waste Services: Improving Quality of Life” workshops will cover these topics: -- emphasize the connections between clean, attractive communities and sound waste management practices; -- enhance traditional recycling and composting efforts;
-- expand special waste recoveries (including yard, food, and Ag waste);
-- encourage mandatory waste collection;
-- address improper disposal practices including open burning, littering, and illegal dumping;
-- build partnerships and better communication with private sector service providers;
-- encourage intermunicipal cooperation and multi-municipal programs to improve efficiency; and
-- assist rural municipalities in better evaluating their programs with the ultimate goal of increasing recycling diversions and efficiencies.
