On September 10 former Governor Mark Schweiker, General Tommy Franks, Sen. Jane Orie (R-Allegheny) and others involved in the Hearts of Steel Campaign to present more than $1 million that has been raised for the construction of a memorial to honor the heroes of Flight 93.

Also at the event will be representatives of the National Park Service, Families of Flight 93, and organizations that took part in the fundraising effort.

The event will take place at 11 a.m in the State Capitol's East Wing Media Center in Harrisburg.
Sen. Orie said the event will also highlight the work that many organizations and individuals have done to raise money for a lasting memorial to the passengers and crew of Flight 93.

She said Pennsylvania and the entire nation were deeply touched by the heroism displayed by the heroes of United Airlines Flight 93 after the terrorist attacks of 2001, and many wanted to find a way to keep their memories alive.

A consortium of businesses, non-profit organizations, unions and others joined together to produce stainless steel engraved bracelets similar to the POW bracelets of the 1970s.

The original goal was to raise $10,000 for the Flight 93 Memorial; however, orders for the $10 bracelets came in from around the United States and around the world in overwhelming numbers. Due to the hard work of so many volunteers, more than $1.1 million has been raised for the National Park Service to help fund the Flight 93 Memorial.
