The Harrisburg Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Lemoyne, Cumberland County this week awarded the Harrisburg Area Community College main campus with a $1,000 scholarship for winning the Recycle Bowl competition for recycling 13,650 plastic or aluminum containers. (Photo: David Shelek, Harrisburg Coca-Cola, HACC students Jonathan Lebo and Nicole Huber) Gettysburg College, Harrisburg Area Community College and Lebanon Valley College participated in a week-long competition to see which school could collect the most cans and bottles in recycling bins. Gettysburg College recycled 5,700 containers and Lebanon Valley recycled 5,500 container. A total of 14,850 containers were recycled during the special event. Participating in the award presentation were Cumberland County Commissioner Barbara Cross and Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick as well as a representative of Rep. Sheryl DeLozier (R-Cumberland) attended the awards ceremony. David Shelek, Sales Center Manager for Harrisburg Coca-Cola, presented the award and described other recycling initiatives at the Lemoyne The Recycle Bowl competition is part of Coca-Cola's global, company-wide Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability initiatives. For example, all returned product, wrapping and plastic at the distribution facility is recycled as well as the water used for washing trucks used to distribute product.
