Lancaster County Agricultural Summit Set For October 20-21
Lancaster County Commissioners will host a Lancaster County Agriculture Summit on October 20-21 to look at the economic contribution of agriculture to the County and at water quality issues.

The Summit will highlight the important role that agriculture plays in Lancaster County. To experience a closer look at the benefits of agriculture in Lancaster County, a panel of experts has been assembled to investigate agriculture’s impact in two key areas:

-- Day 1: How Lancaster’s Economy Benefits from Agriculture. Morning seminar, lunch, afternoon tour. Location: The Farm and Home Center 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, PA 17601; and

-- Day 2: How Water Quality Benefits from Agriculture. Morning seminar, lunch, afternoon tour. Location: Bird-in Hand Family Restaurant, 2760 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, PA 17505.

5,000 farms and 400,000 acres of farmland. Our farmers have been stewards of this land and increased its natural fertility by nurturing, conserving and improving the outstanding Class I, II and III soils for more than 300 years.

This uniquely fertile land, combined with a temperate climate and rolling topography have contributed to Lancaster County’s reputation as “The Garden Spot.”

County and local government officials, township solicitors and engineers, planners, educators, chamber members and community leaders are welcome to attend.

In addition to the Commissioners, sponsors of the event include Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-Lancaster), Wenger's Feed Mill, Inc., Lancaster Chamber Agriculture Committee, the Center of Excellence in Production Agriculture and the Coalition for Smart Growth.
