Green Computing Through Green Purchasing Workshop November 11
The Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center, in conjunction with Penn State Harrisburg’s Office of Continuing Education, will offer a workshop on purchasing green computing products using the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool.

The workshop will be held on November 11 at the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh starting at 11:30.
Attendees will learn to specify environmentally friendly computer desktop, notebook, monitor equipment, and integrated systems. EPEAT is being adopted by various states and large institutional purchasers.

Through involvement with the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center, Pennsylvania’s Department of General Services and Penn State University, advanced use of the EPEAT® System and combined have purchased over 70,000 units that are EPEAT rated.

Manufacturers of electronic equipment must register their products and meet up to 51 environmental criteria to achieve Bronze, Silver, or Gold ratings. Several major electronics manufacturers participate and provide EPEAT registered products, typically with product availability at no increase in cost.

This program will provide an introduction to using EPEAT in evaluating electronics procurement and also includes an environmental calculator to determine reductions in energy usage, climate change emissions, municipal solid waste, hazardous waste, and toxic materials through acquisition and use of EPEAT® rated equipment.

The cost of the workshop is $35.
