Pittsburgh Climate Initiative Partnership Plants Trees To Reduce Greenhouse Emissions
Pittsburgh's Higher Education Climate Consortium planted trees in partnership with the TreeVitalize project in the South Side neighborhood and working with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in two downtown community garden projects on October 24 for the 350.org Day of Action.

A collaborative effort that is part of the Pittsburgh Climate Initiative partnership, HECC brings together students, staff and faculty from across the city to perform hands-on activities that can help reduce greenhouse gases.

HECC's member schools are participating in the international 350.org Day of Action to spread the message that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is imperative and that, along with its partners in the Pittsburgh Climate Initiative, they are committed to the City of Pittsburgh's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 20 percent below 2003 levels by the year 2023.

Here are the HECC member schools participating in the projects: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Community College of Allegheny County, Duquesne University, LaRoche University, Point Park University, Robert Morris University, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and University of Pittsburgh.

HECC's environmental action is taking place in conjunction with the community's Black and Gold City Goes Green November action, which encourages Pittsburgh's citizens to plant a tree.
