Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future has been selected as the Pennsylvania affiliate of National Wildlife Federation. The unanimous decision was made at NWF’s Board of Directors meeting this past weekend.
“We are extraordinarily pleased to accept the responsibilities as the Pennsylvania affiliate to the National Wildlife Federation,” said Jan Jarrett, president and CEO of PennFuture. “We have long worked to create a network of all the conservation community – anglers, hunters, archers, nature lovers, environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts – to protect and promote Pennsylvania’s environment and economy. This partnership with NWF moves us light years forward in building Pennsylvania’s conservation movement.” “We are delighted to partner with PennFuture, and welcome them as our 47th state and territorial affiliate,” said Larry Schweiger, president of National Wildlife Federation. “PennFuture is a powerhouse organization in Pennsylvania, and our common efforts to restore and protect wildlife and its habitat, combat global warming and connect people with nature make this a natural partnership. “Conservationists in Pennsylvania know that PennFuture has been crucial to protecting habitat as well as hunting and fishing in the state, with both their advocacy and litigation efforts,” Schweiger said. Working from the premise that “Every environmental victory grows the economy,” PennFuture has successfully advocated for landmark environmental legislation, including passage of the largest-ever environmental funding bond, passage of the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act, funding for green energy and energy efficiency, and passage of the law requiring a statewide climate change action plan. Pennsylvania is part of NWF’s Chesapeake Mid-Atlantic region, one of nine such regions throughout the United States. Affiliates in each region work together and with partners to advance conservation and protect the region’s unique natural treasures. The Mid-Atlantic region includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. “We already are working with PennFuture to protect and restore Pennsylvania’s rivers and streams in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, so we’re familiar with their fantastic policy track record,” said Tony Caligiuri, NWF Mid-Atlantic regional executive director. “We anticipate that PennFuture will be a great leader in our region-wide efforts to conserve our resources, and to connect Pennsylvania families to nature for generations to come.” “This is terrific news for PennFuture – and even greater news for the environment,” said David Lane, chair of the PennFuture Board of Directors. “We hope our affiliation with National Wildlife Federation will increase and expand our ability to make sure that we have plenty of environmental victories growing our economy.” |
