2010 Farm Show To Showcase The Best of Pennsylvania Agriculture, Offer Family Fun

From sheep shearing and cow milking to mushroom munching and milkshake sipping, the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show will offer something to interest every visitor, said Acting Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding.

The 94th show is set for January 9-16 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. Visitors will be able to see 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits, and 270 commercial exhibitors during the eight-day show.

“The Farm Show is a unique showcase of our agriculture industry’s finest products, technology and food,” said Acting Secretary Redding. “A tradition that dates back to 1917, the show is an important part of our state’s history and highlights the important and evolving role agriculture plays in Pennsylvania’s future. We are excited to welcome farmers, agribusinesses and consumers to this one-of-a-kind event and look forward to what promises to be another outstanding show.”

With a theme this year of “Keeping Pennsylvania Growing,” the Farm Show will host new activities and events combined with traditional favorites.

The show begins with the Farm Show Reception on January 8 that will feature stations offering tastings of Pennsylvania-produced beverages and foods prepared by the Pennsylvania Iron Chef Team. Tickets for the reception are $25. Registration and payment are due by December 18.

Additional show highlights include:

Energy Exhibit
– In its fifth year, the renewable energy exhibit will highlight well established and exciting new alternative energy sources that are helping to lower energy costs for families and businesses, clean the environment, and strengthen Pennsylvania’s national security by reducing dependence on foreign oil.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show runs January 9-16 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free and parking is $10.
