DCNR Posts Community Conservation Partnership Grant Awards
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources recently posted the list of 143 grants it awarded totaling $18.9 million under the Community Conservation Partnership Grant Program. DCNR received 624 applications totaling $101.3 million.

Among the multi-county and statewide projects are:

National Audubon Society
, $75,000 for the Kittatinny Ridge Important Bird Area, implementation of the conservation plan for the Kittatinny Ridge by creating an Audubon property registry of key landowners; providing technical assistance and training to municipalities on environmental regulations and land use ordinances; developing fact sheets for priority bird habitat best management practices and producing a State of the Kittatinny Report.

Natural Lands Trust
, $75,000 for "Growing Greener: Conservation by Design" to provide training and technical assistance to municipal officials, planning consultants and community planners on sound land use development practices.

PA CleanWays
, $75,000 for "Greenway Adoption and Education Program" including providing technical assistance, promotion, training, and education to establish a corps of volunteers to conduct 4 or 5 illegal dumpsite cleanups in greenways and to administer the Adopt-A-Greenway Program. Provide informational and adoption signage for new and previous cleanup sites. Develop a teacher's guide to the "Open Your Eyes to Litter" publication.

Pennsylvania Land Trust Association
, $150,000 to provide technical assistance, outreach and education in 2010-2011 to conservation organizations and governments on land conservation and good land use planning, expand Conservation Tools.org, manage Conservation Easement Assistance Program, and manage the annual PALTA Land Conservation Conferences.

Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation
, $175,000 for Advancing Volunteerism and Recreation in Pennsylvania" to engage citizens in volunteerism and recreation in Pennsylvania, with a focus on youth, seniors and friends groups, improve communications through multiple forms of media. Support the advancement of increased recreational opportunities in our state parks and forests.

Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society
, $175,000 for Recreation and Park Education and Technical Assistance to assist the Department with the provision of Recreation and Park education, training, and technical assistance services through the use of technology such as webinars, website based information; convening workshops and conferences, support for the RecTAP Program; “Green” and sustainable best practices, consultant training; and expanded focus on inclusion, continued support for the Technical Advisory Committee and the health and wellness priorities from the SCORP.

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership
, $160,000 to provide technical assistance to local partners, manage system-wide initiatives, and implement the Susquehanna Strategic Action Plan. Priority actions include improving connectivity, signage, and river access; revitalizing river towns; branding and promotion.

Whitaker Center For Science and the Arts
, $150,000, Chesapeake Bay Watershed Educational Film, work to include completion of the pre-production phase of a giant format, educational film on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed including scriptwriting and concept development, production design, production management, equipment preparation, and final schedule preparation. WITF,
$65,000 for the Explore PA and Maurice Goddard Documentary by producing four new episodes of the Explore PA television series, developing segments of past and future Explore PA episodes for use on various multi-media platforms, producing a special documentary featuring the life of Maurice Goddard. Create an Environmental Forum that focuses on life of Maurice Goddard and the major environmental issues facing Pennsylvania today.

The deadline for applications for the 2010 round of grants is April 21. DCNR is sponsoring grant writing workshops starting February 2 around the state.
