Call For Nominations For EPA Montreal Protocol Climate Change Awards
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is soliciting award nominations for individuals, teams and organizations that have made significant contributions to ozone layer protection.

Nominations are due March 1.

The stratospheric ozone layer prevents excessive harmful ultraviolet radiation from reaching people, plants and animals. The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer is phasing out ozone-depleting substances and has also helped to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Nominees must demonstrate one or more of the following criteria: originality and public purpose; leadership and corporate responsibility; global perspective and implication; success in eliminating substances that deplete the ozone layer or in transitioning to alternatives with reduced environmental impact; or leadership in improving awareness of the harmful health effects of overexposure to UV radiation.

EPA will present the awards in the fall of 2010.

EPA created the awards in 1990 to recognize outstanding contributions to the protection of the Earth’s stratospheric ozone layer. Since then, 554 individuals, companies, organizations, and teams from 54 countries have earned this honor.
