PA CleanWays Cleans Up Active Illegal Dumpsites In Fayette County

PA CleanWays and PA CleanWays of Fayette County worked together with the Brownsville community to clean several active, pervasive, illegal dumpsites along Century Road and Mill Street.
The Brownsville Area High School Interact Club and local residents bagged trash, pulled larger debris and tires into piles, and walked the roadsides collecting litter as Brownsville Borough, Brownsville Township and Lee’s Plumbing & Excavating donated workers and equipment to load nearly 200 tons of waste into a dozen large dumpsters.
Donations from Brownsville Bus Lines to transport the students, Lawver Tire Disposal to help remove the 762 tires, and Veolia Chestnut Valley Landfill for reduced waste disposal were greatly appreciated.
The Herald Standard publicized the event and need for volunteers, and helped educate the community about proper waste disposal and recycling.  Continued community support and involvement will be needed to help keep these cleaned sites clean.
Cleanup funding was provided by the Wal-Mart Foundation.
