Rendell Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Production Tax Supported In New Poll

A poll released this week by Quinnipiac University shows those surveyed support a Marcellus Shale natural gas production tax, the only tax changes proposed by Gov. Rendell in the FY 2010-11 budget they supported. The natural gas production tax was supported by 49 percent and opposed by 41 percent. The strongest support came in the Philadelphia region with 58 to 31 percent supporting the tax, 50 to 42 percent supported the tax in Allegheny County, 50 to 41 percent in Central Pennsylvania and 45 to 44 percent in Northeasten Pennsylvania.
It was opposed 42 to 49 percent in the Southwest and by a 33 to 56 percent margin in the Northwest. Detailed poll results are available online.
