Municipalities Invited To March 31 Outdoor Lighting Workshop
|
The Pennsylvania Outdoor Lighting Council will hold a workshop on March 31 in Hummelstown, Pa to help local officials learn about energy efficient and good outdoor lighting practices.
This free program will be held for municipalities in Lebanon, Dauphin and surrounding counties from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The program addresses issues like: understanding the concepts and benefits derived from good outdoor lighting practices, appreciating the relationship between good lighting and sound energy management, understanding how adverse lighting affects your community, defining and identifying improper or hazardous lighting, understanding some of the simple and often inexpensive remedies available to correct inappropriate lighting, understanding the steps required to control lighting in your community, learning how to write, get enacted and implement an effective lighting ordinance.
Who should attend? elected officials, planning commission members, code enforcement officers, environmental advisory council members, municipal engineers and planners, zoning hearing board members, township and borough managers and interested citizens.
The combination of inadequate outdoor lighting codes, weak enforcement and employment of poorly designed and installed lighting results in energy waste, light pollution and glare. Attendees will learn how they can take part in improving the outdoor lighting in their community.
