Earth Day: Outdoor Heritage Month, Native Plant Fest Of The Alleghenies

The Alleghenies will host several special events during April and May. Outdoor Heritage Month in the Alleghenies - Month of April: Outdoor Heritage is an annual partnership initiative with the goal of inspiring citizens of all ages and backgrounds to be environmental stewards of our beautiful Allegheny Mountains. We strive for this through education, outreach, and service projects that are kicked off each April and continue throughout the rest of the year. Featured efforts include Outdoor Adventures, a free elementary school field trip where students experience the outdoors through hands-on activities.
Each year, Outdoor Heritage connects more than 5,000 citizens to local conservation events and educates over 1,000 children on conservation topics!
This year's theme is Learn and Serve Outdoors, stressing the importance of exploring our natural world in order to derive the inspiration to protect and restore it. Outdoor Adventures is endorsed by the PA Association of Environmental Educators.
Native Plant Fest of the Alleghenies - May 22: Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come to the Native Plant Fest to learn how native plants can augment your garden, enhance wildlife habitat, and provide a sense of place in Pennsylvania heritage! Native plant nurseries from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia have been invited to sell their stock at our event. In addition, two adult workshops, a children's workshop, and a special keynote presentation from author and native plant expert, Doug Tallamy, will be offered. The workshops and Dr. Tallamy's presentation are free for JAHA members and Natural Biodiversity donors. Each are $5 for non-members.
