Earth Day At 40-- Harrisburg's First Environmental Film Festival April 15

This year we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, the nationwide teach-in that kick-started many of the major environmental programs we have today.             PA Environmental Heritage
            In 1962 Pennsylvanian Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring to raise awareness about the impact pesticides have on the environment and helped start the modern environmental movement.
            The Chesapeake Bay Foundation was established in 1967 to educate the public about deteriorating conditions in the Chesapeake Bay.
            In 1970 the first Natural and Wild Area was established on State Forest land to protect endangered species.

Earth Day: Harrisburg's First Environmental Film Festival April 15

The Whitaker Center in Harrisburg will host its first Environmental Film Festival on April 15 starting at 5:30.

            The films include: Carpa Diem, A Simple Question on watershed project, The Last Desent about whitewater kayakers, Fun Theory, Piano Stairs, Split Estate on developing natural gas reserves and Fresh celebrating farmers, business people and thinkers who are re-inventing our food system.
