Mifflin County PA CleanWays Honored By Planning Commission

PA CleanWays of Mifflin County was honored by the Mifflin County Planning Commission at their annual dinner on April 1.  The Mifflin County chapter of PA CleanWays-Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful received the Community Planning Award for the work they have done in the county to rid illegal dumping.
The chapter focuses on organized cleanups of illegal dumps, special collections events of items such as tires that are hard to dispose of, promoting recycling, and educating the public about illegal dumping and littering.  Since its inception in 2001, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County has held 61 cleanups that removed and properly disposed 174.65 tons of trash.  Additionally, the chapter has recycled over 4,000 tires.
Last October, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County in cooperation with the County Solid Waste Authority, hosted the area’s first annual Green Expo.  The Expo offered information on green products, energy efficiency, and recycling.  The next Expo is scheduled for June 19, 2010.
“We are so pleased that the Mifflin County Planning Commission honored the work of PA CleanWays of Mifflin County,” says Shannon Reiter, President of PA CleanWays – Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.  “This chapter, consisting of concerned residents, has been volunteering their efforts to help make Mifflin County a better place.  They have made tremendous strides in their goals of cleaning the illegal dump sites within the county and educating the public on the importance of recycling.”
